Mammen Necklace

A stylish and pagan presentation of the battle-axe from Mammen. During the Viking Age, the axe was the symbol of the warrior, either worn as jewellery like this or carried as a miniature ceremonial axe on the belt. We have framed the piece with a coarsely wrapped leather cord and a natural fiber thread. It is one of our most popular necklaces, available in both pewter and bronze finish. The necklace is part of our design series of complete pagan necklaces, where we combine various historical pendants with leather, bone, and horn to create Viking jewellery suitable for everyone, then as now. Since organic materials like leather, wood, and horn do not survive in the ground over time, we do not know much about what Viking jewellery looked like. What we do find is the metal, stone, and glass that has been preserved. With these necklaces, we have therefore created a vision of how this jewellery may have been assembled and worn.
