Helmet Viking Gjermundbu

For our hand-forged reproduction of this famous Viking helmet, we have started from drawings of the find and tried to get as close as possible to the original. We have adjusted the size and given it a leather lining with suspension and chin strap. Just like the original, the helmet is reinforced with criss-cross arched straps. It is also both welded internally and riveted externally to achieve maximum safety. Unlike the original, the helmet's cup is only made in two cleft-shaped parts, instead of four, which also gives the helmet an increased impact resistance.

The helmet is marked with the Nordlys™ "smith's mark" so you can be sure that you have a helmet with a guarantee from our own forge.

The original Gjermundbu helmet is the only surviving Viking helmet from the Nordic region. It was found during the excavations of a rich warrior grave not so far from Oslo, the capital of Norway. In addition to the helmet, there was also everything else a Viking warrior could possibly need, such as swords, axes, spears and shields.
