This hand-forged Viking sword is made using the same methods used 1000 years ago. It is a hand-forged copy of a Viking sword of type S* from the 8th century, found in northern Norway. The sword is completely handmade in high-quality carbon steel, hardened with oil and tempered in the traditional way over a carbon case. The blade is also marked with the Nordlys™ "smith's mark" so you can be sure that you have a genuine sword from our own forge.
The hilt has a handle wrapped in leather and has the period-typical three-piece button and narrow paring bar.
The ski is made according to findings with a wooden core bound with black leather and with a bronze dip shoe in a Viking era design. The sword scabbard has a wooden belt bridge and is decorated with both inlays under the leather and brown braided leather straps.
The Viking warrior typically had two belts for the sword, one over the opposite shoulder and one around the waist. The two belts relieved and distributed the weight of the sword and ran through a jumper on the ski called a belt bridge.
