Viking-age rectangular bone die

A special bone die based on a specific find from York, 

The die is rectangular and has 6 sides, each side numbered with dots from 1 to 6. The ends feature the numbers 2 and 4, making it a very special die. This also makes it very difficult to roll a 2 or a 4, but it is actually possible. What kind of games the Vikings played with this die we do not know, nor whether it was considered good or bad to roll those particular numbers.

The Vikings played many different games. Many of them seem to have involved dice, judging by the quantity of dice found in excavations. In York, a variety of different types of dice have been found, all varying in shape and design. Many of them were not symmetrical, and that does not seem to have mattered much to the Vikings. Perhaps this was because they believed in fate and therefore had a different attitude towards the concept of luck than we do today.
