Helmet Viking Gjermundbu with chainmail

For our hand-forged reproduction of the Gjermundbu helmet, we have based our work on drawings of the find and tried to get as close to the original as possible. We have adjusted the size and fitted it with a leather liner featuring a suspension system and chin strap. Around the lower edge sits the hand-riveted chainmail to protect the neck and shoulders. Each ring is individually riveted for optimal safety. The helmet is designed to withstand use in various types of historical fencing and features 1.2 mm thick steel, which, just like the original, is reinforced with crisscrossing curved bands.

For safety reasons, the helmet is both welded on the inside and riveted on the outside. The dome of the helmet is made in only two gore-shaped pieces instead of four, which also gives the helmet increased durability.

The original Gjermundbu helmet is the only preserved Viking helmet from Scandinavia. It was discovered during excavations of a wealthy warrior grave not far from Oslo, the capital of Norway. In addition to the helmet, it contained everything else a Viking warrior could possibly need, such as swords, axes, spears, and a shield.

The helmet is also marked with Nordlys™ maker's mark, which guarantees its quality and that it comes from our own forge.
