Nordlys Viking
Lofotr viking sword
This hand-forged Viking sword is crafted using the same methods used 1000 years ago. It is a hand-forged copy of a 9th-century Type S* Viking sword found in northern Norway. The sword is entirely handmade from high-quality carbon steel, oil-tempered, and traditionally annealed over a charcoal forge. The blade is also marked with the Nordlys™ maker's mark so you can be sure you have an authentic sword from our own forge.
The hilt features a leather-wrapped handle, a period-appropriate three-part pommel, and a narrow crossguard.
The scabbard is made according to archaeological finds, featuring a wooden core bound with black leather and a bronze chape in Viking-age design. The sword scabbard has a wooden belt bridge and is decorated with both under-leather inlays and brown braided leather cords.
The Viking warrior typically wore two belts for the sword, one over the opposite shoulder and one around the waist. The two belts relieved and distributed the weight of the sword and ran through a loop on the scabbard called a belt bridge.
