Kings Valley Viking Sword

The original of this sword was found in Dalarna, Sollerön parish. It is a little over 30 km south of Mora. The sword is dated to 800–1100 AD.

The sword was found in a burial mound that was 13.5 m wide, containing cremation remains and 2 spearheads, 13 arrowhead tips, an axe and shield as well as a comb, comb case and a belt buckle in the style of those found in Russia and Ukraine. Along with the warrior, there were also two secondary graves, one of which is interpreted as a sacrifice and the other as a later deposition in the same burial mound. It was a woman cremated and buried with oval brooches, a bronze annular brooch and 3 arm rings.

The sword is Petersen type Z.

With its long and flexible blade, thin fuller and with the incredibly beautiful and detailed scabbard, it is truly a sword worthy of a king. Handmade in the Viking-age manner from high-quality steel, hardened in oil and tempered in the traditional way over a charcoal forge makes this sword something for every collector. The handle is wrapped in brown leather and has a period-typical trefoil pommel and a slightly curved crossguard, which classifies the sword model as type S according to Jan Petersen. The leather scabbard is handmade with a wooden core, covered in leather, features a wooden belt bridge and is decorated with blood-red leather cords as well as a bronze chape with intricate patterns. Viking-age swords were traditionally worn with two belts, one across the chest and one around the waist to distribute the weight of the sword, running through a loop on the scabbard called a belt bridge.

Since the sword is not blunted (does not have a rounded edge), it is not recommended for martial arts, but intended for collectors, for decorative or ceremonial purposes.
